Following the water leaks in the subscriber connection of Galata Tower and Büyük Hendek Avenue, another significant water leak was identified on Galata Tower Street, just 30 meters away from Galata Tower. This leak uncovered a mysterious water source that had been flowing into the Historical Funicular Tunnel for years, remaining undetected.
For years, there had been a continuous water leakage into the 144-year-old Funicular Tunnel, dating back to the Ottoman period and being Türkiye's first and the world's second metro. However, the source of this water could never be determined. A significant underground void formed at the location of the water leak indicated that this issue had persisted for a long time. This mysterious leak had been continuously detected since the establishment of the system, triggering alarm messages as warnings.
After the repair of the malfunction, the warnings within the system ceased, and the mysterious water source in the tunnel was stopped. This success once again demonstrated the effectiveness of the collaborative efforts with ISKI Beyoğlu department.
