What is a Level Switch?

A level switch is a sensor that detects the presence of liquid, powder, or granular materials at a specific location. (Also known as a level switch or float switch). To prevent overflow, a level switch is installed near the top of a tank. When the liquid level touches the switch, it sends a signal to prevent the tank from overflowing. (This is known as full detection or high-level detection). On the other hand, when liquid is being drained and the level drops, a level switch is used to prevent the tank from completely emptying. This is known as empty detection or low-level detection.

What is a Level Sensor?

Unlike level switches, level sensors provide real-time readings of the level of liquid, powder, or granular materials. While a level switch can detect the presence of material at a specific point, a level sensor typically provides a reading of the total liquid volume in a tank. A level sensor usually provides its reading as a small current between 4 to 20 mA. (4mA represents 0%, 20mA represents 100%, and 12mA represents 50%).
