How Does a Magnetostrictive Level Detector Work?
A float with a magnetic disk moves along a guide tube with a special magnetostrictive wire inside. A torsion develops at the point where the float reaches its magnetic field. The impact reflected from the torsion point creates an acoustic wave that travels back along the wire.
The transmitter’s 4 – 20 mA output is proportional to the time elapsed between excitation and detection.
