MULTICONT – Multi-Channel Process Control Unit

The MultiCONT process control unit is a universal interface between NIVELCO’s HART® enabled smart level transmitters and other elements of the process control system such as PCs, PLCs, displays and actuators. Besides its interface role, the MultiCONT control unit powers 2-wire transmitters when performing complex control tasks. The MultiCONT unit supports communication with a maximum of 15 standard or 4 Ex ia certified NIVELCO’s 2 and/or 4 wire transmitters with HART®. For Ex version transmitters, if MultiCONT is used with NIVELCO’s MicroTREK or PiloTREK microwave level transmitters, the maximum number of transmitters in a loop should not exceed 6. If a system contains more transmitters than one MultiCONT can handle, more MultiCONT units can be serialized over an RS485 line. can be connected as Remote programming of transmitters and downloading of parameters and measured data is possible using MultiCONT. Various outputs such as 4 – 20 mA, relays and digital outputs can be controlled using measured values and new values calculated from the measured values. The MultiCONT’s internal current outputs (max. 2) can transmit and even change the information provided by the transmitters. The built-in relays (max. 5) can be freely programmed and assigned to the transmitters. The large LCD or OLED dot matrix display allows visualization of a wide variety of informative display functions. It is the “Echo Map” visualization when communicating with NIVELCO’s EchoTREK and EasyTREK transmitters.

Data logging (optional)
Types with datalogger can save the measured values and three additional parameters of the connected transmitters to the internal Flash memory or to an SD memory card. The user can choose between two available recording modes: “Time-controlled” and “Event-controlled”. If NIVELCO’s ultrasonic level transmitters are used for flow measurement, the data logger records selected values from a dozen process variables and peak flow values over a period of time. The capacity of the internal memory is cca. 65 000 entries, SD cards can be used up to 64 GB capacity.

NIVISION (optional) – What is Process Visualization Software?

MultiCONT(s) control units in the system with NIVISION software use the RS485 physical layer and the Modbus® RTU communication protocol to visualize measurement data in numerical and graphical display modes on a control PC. The Process Visualization Software performs data logging (database processing), trend monitoring or alarm display as well as visualizing the process, measured values and calculated values. The software is sold as a custom product.

How can MultiCONT be expanded?
If the number of internal relays or current generators is not sufficient, the MultiCONT “module” can be expanded with external modules using the RS485 interface. The total of relays in UNICONT PJK-100 expansion modules and MultiCONT should not exceed 64, the sum of analog outputs (4 – 20 mA) should not exceed 16. UNICONT PJK-100 series. The maximum number of these modules can be 32. Programming of UNICONT PJK modules can be done by MultiCONT.
