We successfully completed and commissioned the propane tank monitoring SCADA project we designed for TürkTraktör, Turkey's leading tractor manufacturer. The 2 propane tanks — a critical link in the facility's energy infrastructure — are now monitored in real time, 24/7; tank levels, alarm thresholds and historical data are in front of the operator on a single screen within seconds.
24/7 Tank Level and Alarm Monitoring
The two propane tanks — a critical link in the facility's energy infrastructure — are now monitored in real time, 24/7. Tank levels, alarm thresholds and historical data are in front of the operator on a single screen within seconds. For each tank, four alarm levels — HH (High High), H (High), L (Low) and LL (Low Low) — were defined; thanks to the high and low level alarms, both overflow and unexpected depletion scenarios are now reported instantly.
Trend and Historical Data Analysis
The real-time trend graph screen enables retrospective analysis of the tank levels. The operator can evaluate how levels change over time graphically, so consumption and refill planning becomes data-driven.
Field Hardware and Panel Design
The field control architecture was built on a Siemens S7-1200 PLC; visualization was provided with the inSCADA platform running on an industrial fanless Panel PC. The panel design uses a galvanically isolated signal line, 24 V industrial power distribution and thermal protection. The whole solution was delivered as a plug-and-play integrated unit inside an IP-rated, field-grade wall-mounted panel. From design to panel manufacturing, from PLC programming to SCADA visualization and field commissioning, the entire process was carried out end-to-end by the Aykome Engineering team.
Cyber-Security-Focused Architecture
One of the matters we cared about most in this project was server security. The SCADA server was never opened to any external network; the system was designed so that it can only be monitored from the Panel PC on the locked panel in the field. This both eliminated the risk of remote access entirely and reduced the possibility of unauthorized intervention to physically zero. In critical infrastructure, we applied the principle that "the most secure connection is the one that does not exist."
Why It Matters
In tanks storing flammable gases such as propane, level tracking is not only a matter of operational efficiency but also of occupational safety. Thanks to the high and low level alarms, both overflow and unexpected depletion scenarios are now reported instantly; production stays uninterrupted and the facility stays safe.
